SFARDS With Preliminary Datasheet for SF3301 ASIC Chips

sfards-sf3301-power-usage-hashrate

It seems that things at SFARDS are progressing well as the company has just released some documents including a datasheet for their upcoming SF3301 Bitcoin and Litecoin dual-mining ASIC chips. The documents include a preliminary power usage report on expected power usage in LTC and BTC mining modes that you can see on the image above. The numbers released in the above tables are higher than what we have anticipated based on previously released information about performance and power usage as the power efficiency numbers were apparently for too low operating voltages and frequencies that are going to be producing too low hashrates to be useable. Also it seems that SFARDS already has some sample chips and will announce pricing details on May 4th as was announced on their official Twitter account.

Official specifications of SFARDS SF3301:
– 160 BTC Units
– 31 LTC Units
– BTC mode up to 80 GH/s with 0.31 W/GH
– LTC mode up to 1.89 MH/s with 2.0 W/MH
– Dual-Mining mode: 100 GH/s BTC and 1.75 MH/s LTC
– Highly integrated with PLL and Pre-Calculation Engine of BTC
– 2-wires UART interface
– Support Crystal and Oscillator
– Fully adjustable clock frequency
– Support body-bias adjust
– On-chip thermal sensor

Based on the official specifications of the SF3301 Dual-Miner chip we are now looking at 100 GHS BTC and 1.75 MHS LTC mining performance per chip with expected power usage of just about 35W. And if we want to overclock it to get about 150 GHS with 3 MHS hashrates it would scale up to about 100W of power usage. Do note that these numbers and specifications are preliminary and are on per chip basis. If we make a 10-chip miner it could turn out to offer 1 THS Bitcoin hashrate and 17.5 MHS Litecoin combined hashrate with a power usage of about 350W which sounds like a pretty reasonable number. However overclocking this to get 1.5 THS and 30 MHS would scale the used power about 3 times all the way up to about 1 KW. So in the end it is going to be all about finding the best balance between hashrate provided and power usage with the maximum performance with overclock definitely not going to be the best option here, but then again the price of the hardware is also going to play a very important role here. People are already placing high hopes on the SF3301 ASIC chips to revive the interest in Litecoin and bring the price to a higher levels as mining for LTC resumes with a more up to date mining hardware that has better power efficiency.

GigaHash, a New Cloud Mining Service

gigahash-main

Another new cloudmining service that we’ve just recently discovered, apparently this is a small scale European mining operation that was just started earlier this year, offering Scrypt and SHA-256 cloud mining hashrate. It is keeping more on the anonymous side of things as far as details about the operators of the service as there aren’t much. So far the service has sold 100 THS worth of Bitcoin mining hashrate and 5 GHS worth of Scrypt mining hashrate and is offering their second batch of 50 THS hashrate for mining Bitcoin. From the GHASH2 contracts currently on sale there are 32298 GHS available for sale at the moment and you can purchase 1 GHS at a price of 0.00150000 BTC or $0.35 USD. The cloud mining contracts are with no specific term, so “lifetime” meaning until they are returning profit after you pay a daily fee of $0.00117 USD per GHS you own.

gigahash-dividends

The payment methods supported include payment with Bitcoin, with multiple altcoins that are converted to BTC or with PayPal, so you have multiple options available. The service does seem to work well, comes with nice simple and useful interface with all the required information and features for the user. There is a graphical display with the daily dividends that you are earning from the hashrate you purchase and currently the last dividend amount from yesterday was 465 satoshi per GHS. We’ve purchased 100 GHS hashrate from the GHASH2 contract to try out the service and that should result in about 0.00046500 BTC earned daily with the current market conditions. We’ll keep you updated on how things progress with our tests of the service, but so far things are looking good, but as usual with new services we advice to proceed with caution and not invest much at start just to be on the safe side.

What Can You Currently Earn Mining Bitcoins

bitcoin-hashrate-and-difficulty

Up until November last year we’ve been seeing a more serious growth in the Bitcoin network, much faster faster at the beginning of the year, but since then the increase of the network difficulty has been slower and in the last two months you can say things were pretty stable. There are number of reasons for the steadier pace with the stable and considered a low price of Bitcoin by many lately, but with many other reasons also influencing this outcome. While the network hashrate hasn’t been jumping a lot lately and the price of BTC remaining relatively stable in over $200 and less than $300 USD for quite a while, the number of network transactions has been increasing steadily. But what can you expect to be able to mine in terms of Bitcoins if you are currently mining, this is what we are going to be taking a look at. The calculations below are made using an exchange rate of $227.5 USD per 1 BTC, so the may vary a bit with the change of that rate. Do note that the numbers are representing what you are going to mine with the current BTC network difficulty of 47,610,564,513 if that difficulty remains stable for the mentioned period. To get to know what will be the actual profit you will get you need to also calculate the power costs of your mining hardware (or maintenance fee for cloud mining contracts) and subtract it from the respective expected earnings.

10 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $0.02403 USD (0.00010560 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $0.1682 USD (0.00073940 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $0.7209 USD (0.00316900 BTC)

100 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $0.2403 USD (0.00105600 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $1.682 USD (0.00739400 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $7.209 USD (0.03169000 BTC)

500 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $1.202 USD (0.00528200 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $8.411 USD (0.03697000 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $36.05 USD (0.15840000 BTC)

1000 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $2.403 USD (0.01056000 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $16.82 USD (0.07394000 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $72.09 USD (0.31690000 BTC)

5000 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $12.02 USD (0.05282000 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $84.11 USD (0.36970000 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $360.5 USD (1.58400000 BTC)

10000 GHS SHA-256 Hashrate:
– Daily Earnings: $24.03 USD (0.10560000 BTC)
– Weekly Earnings: $168.2 USD (0.73940000 BTC)
– Monthly Earnings: $720.9 USD (3.16900000 BTC)

Looking at these number of expected mined coins and their value in USD and taking into account that you need to subtract any power costs or maintenance fees from them to see what the final actual profit will be it seems to be pretty unreasonable to actually have less than 500-1000 GHS of hashrate. That is of course unless you just want to get a bit of hashrate to test a cloud mining service or play with a small and cheap Bitcoin ASIC just for fun and not to actually make some profit. Do note that the numbers above represent the current exchange rate of BTC, so they are good for a mine now and sell immediately type of mining. If you mine coins now and keep them to sell in the future hoping for a significant increase in the value of Bitcoin, then you might end up with higher profit, but then the risk is also higher.

Updated Miner Control 1.6.4 Pack for Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

miner-control-kbomba-1-6-4-updated

Another small update to our Miner Control tool package for Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti GPUs to reflect some of the recent changes in the pools that the tool uses. This version does include Quark support for NiceHash/WestHash as it seems to be the very profitable algorithm to mine at the moment at the two services according to their statistics. The Qubit and Quark algorithms often seem to be the most profitable ones to be mined on Nvidia GPUs, though there are temporary surges in other algorithms such as X11 or X13 from time to time that make them more profitable for a while with the launches of new altcoins. We have also included the latest version of ccMiner 1.5.47-git Fork by SP for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the GTX 750 Ti, so that you can get optimum performance especially since there were quite a lot of Qubit and Quark optimizations lately.

To be ready to use the GeForce GTX 750 Ti package you just need to update the account settings for each pool to reflect your BTC payment address. Do note that the default configuration that we have set is mining from time to time for the author of the software (Miner Control) as a donation alternative, but you can change that setting should you wish to. The package is ready to be used with GTX 750 Ti card, but you can also us it for other Nvidia GPUs or more cards (the ccMiner fork included is for Computer 5.0 and 5.2 cards only) – what you may need to reflect however in the config file is the total hashrate and power usage.

HashFlare, a New Cloud Mining Service

hashflare-bitcoin-cloud-mining

HashFlare is a new cloud mining service that we’ve just discovered, apparently a part of the European company HashCoins that manufactures ASIC miners. There is a bit of controversy surrounding the ASIC maker, but it has been available for a while and apparently has shipped some miners already with more available for pre-order. We have not tested any of their hardware miners, but their cloud mining service is something that we are going to be testing. If you are interested in their mining hardware we suggest that you read a bit about the company and their products released so far, as their upcoming products do not seem very attractive price wise at the moment. Their cloud mining prices do seem a bit more interesting though, but don’t expect them to be the best out there.

hashflare-bitcoin-cloud-mining-prices

It is interesting to mention that the cloud mining service does offer Scrypt Cloud Mining at $9.95 per 1 MHS, something that is not worth investing at all at the moment in due to the very high price per megahash and very low ROI you can expect (less than 1 USD a month) due to the daily fee of $0.01 USD per megahash. The Bitcoin cloud mining hashrate prices do seem much better than he Scrypt ones, though we’ve seen better than $4.45 USD per 10 GHS with a daily fee of $0.01 USD per 10 GHS. Interestingly enough the service apparently also plans to offer Scrypt-N cloud mining powered by GPUs, even though that has not been profitable to mine for quite a while now and with the mother company having already announced upcoming Scrypt-N capable ASIC miners. So if you want to check the service out the only thing that is worth to go for is the SHA-256 cloud mining hashrate, and as usual we would not recommend to go with a large investment in a new service that has recently been launched.

hashflare-dashboard-hashrate

We have already purchased 100 GHS worth of Bitcoin cloud mining hashrate as an initial test at the service just to test things and we have even found a promotional code that gave us 15% discount from the regular prices while looking for some user feedback about the service. So if you do want to try HashFlare you might want to use the promo code for 15% discount from the regular prices – HF1504D15AA, the code should be valid for Scrypt hashrate as well, though we only tested for SHA-256. We have paid for the hashrate with Bitcoins and as soon as the first network confirmation was received the hashrate was available in our account, so it started mining for us. There are alternative ways to pay for hashrate such as with wire transfer or a credit card also available aside from the BTC option. You can apparently also purchase additional hashrate with coins you have mined and have available in your balance, so you can easily reinvest some of the miner coins for more hashrate. Another interesting feature is the ability to select up to 3 different pools to spread your hashrate from a list of pools available, you do not need to add workers or to have registration in any of the pools available. Do note that apparently the poos you choose and the percentage of your hashrate available at each pool may apparently affect your mining profitability.

Paper currency, or cash, is a fairly recent man-made, really a bank made, concept. As I’ve covered previously, paper money is a convenience of a modern society, but many things have acted as money throughout history. Throughout most of history, outright bartering of goods and services was the way of the world. We’ve used feathers, […]

coin-mag9-xmg-accepted-here

Coin Magi (XMG), the altcoin you should be mining if you have some spare CPU power, has launched their 2nd Proof of Mining campaign. An incentive that tries to award with more coins people that do not have too much hashrate, but still want to get more out of their CPU mining power. The idea of this campaign is to encourage people to continue mining even if they have low hashrate or the block reward is not that high by giving them extra bonus coins – the longer you mine the higher the bonus will be. The 2nd PoM campaign will have a duration of about 2 months and you need to register to participate and use a special dedicated pool where you have to mine in order to get the extra reward apart from the mined XMG block rewards. Do note that the total hashrate you can mine with in order to participate int he campaign should not exceed 250 kh/s.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 vs GTX Titan X Mining Performance

nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-vs-titan-x

There are probably not much, if any, people out there mining for crypto coins on the latest and fastest Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan X GPUs, but that does not mean that the video cards based on them are not good for mining. The GTX Titan X does come with 12 GB of video memory, something that is not very useful for crypto mining, but it also comes with 50% more CUDA cores as compared to GTX 980. So you might expect to get up to about 50% performance in crease in terms of hashrate, but that performance increase may come up with twice or even more higher price compared to how much a single GTX 980 costs. So it seems that the GTX Titan X is not very price/performance efficient choice and it might be better to go for two GTX 980s instead not only for mining, but also for gaming as well.

nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-vs-titan-x-results

Nevertheless we still ran some benchmarks to see what is the actual hashrate difference between a GTX 980 and a GTX Titan X GPU using the latest ccMiner 1.5.45 SP-MOD. Do note that the Titan X is still a Compute 5.2 GPU, just like the GTX 980, so it does not bring a new evolution in terms of compute capabilities – just more raw power. As you can see from the table with the results we are seeing in between 30% to almost 50% performance increase in the hashrate of the GTX Titan X GPU as compared to what the GTX 980 currently offers. As we have already mentioned the price difference compared to the actual performance you get makes the GTX 980 the better choice for mining, and you can go for two of these instead of a single Titian X.

You Can Now File your MtGox Creditor Claim with Kraken

kraken-mtgox-bankruptcy-claim

As announced in November last year, Kraken was selected by the MtGox trustee after extensive and objective review to assist MtGox creditors in investigating missing Bitcoin, filing claims, and distributing remaining assets. Now Kraken is accepting MtGox creditor claims and offering up to $1 million in free trade volume per creditor as a bonus for claiming funds through Kraken. The claim and payout service through Kraken is available in all areas of operation, including all US states.

Creditors claiming funds with Kraken can expect the following benefits:
– 100,000 KFEE credits redeemable for up to $1 million in free trading volume at the lowest fee tier of 0.1%
– Creditor claim and payout support with live chat and email
– Option to receive funds in the form of Bitcoin
– An easier and more convenient process from claim to payout

Note that you are not required to file your claim through Kraken and can instead elect to make your claim through the alternative system provided by the MtGox trustee, but Kraken has already proved to be a trusted and reliable service, so we are filing our MtGox claim through them. If using Kraken, then your Kraken account must be verified to Tier 2 or higher to make a claim, so make sure you have already verified your account up to that level at least. If you have a claim to file, you can get started by logging in to your Kraken account, and following the instructions under the “MtGox Claim” tab. Do note that filing your claim through Kraken does not guarantee that you will be getting back all your funds and Bitcoins that were available in your MtGox account!

mtgox-online-bankruptcy-claim-service

Once you initiate the claim procedure you will need to first visit the dedicated MTGOX online bankruptcy claim filing system where you need to provide your username and password for MtGox. You will be getting a temporary authentication code to your MtGox registered email address to verify your identity and set a new password to continue. Then you can switch back to Kraken or continue using the claims system on the MtGox website. When you are back on the Kraken website you will need to fill in some personal details and answer some additional questions before you can complete your claim filing procedure. After that all that is left for you is to wait…

Do Not Pay With Bitcoins at Pi Sipply

pi-supply-payment-options

A little over a month ago Pi Supply, an online store selling Raspberry Pis and accessories for them among some other interesting products, announced that they have started accepting payments with Bitcoin. We have decided to check how will things go, so we made an order and paid with Bitcoins for it with the idea to share our experience with you after that. Well it is time to share that experience and it is not positive at all, about a month layer we still have not received our order paid with Bitcoins. We have not received any email from Pi Supply saying that they are out of stock or there will be a delay with shipping our order or about any kind of a problem. A few days ago we even tried contacting them to see what is going on since it was getting almost a month since we have made an order and paid for it with BTC… still no answer from the store. So in short, we would not recommend to purchase anything at Pi Supply and pay with Bitcoins. Do your payments with PayPal and ask for your money back if you end up in a situation like us when you are not getting what you have ordered a month later. You can also pay with a Credit Card and do a Chargeback if you encounter a problem like this, but unfortunately there is not much you can do if you have paid for an order with Bitcoins like we did and you are not getting your ordered items and not getting a reply with an adequate reason.

London Looks to become Future Global Financial Hub for Bitcoin

Great Britain made an epic mistake about 150 years ago. When the United Kingdom, not Germany, not the United States, was the original home of the automobile’s innovation. This is not well-publicized in Western culture because of the epic failure in the story, and how swiftly the U.K. acted in its own demise. Instead of […]

ZeusHash with New Mining Partner and Cloud Mining Contracts

zeushash-halley-ghs-cloud-mining-contract

ZeusHash hasn’t been doing that well in term of their cloud mining offers on their way moving from a Scrypt ASIC manufacturer to a cloud mining service provider. They stopped offering LTC mining contracts with the downtrend of Litecoin and because of their use of aging and not so efficient in terms of performance and hashrate hardware (especially after cancelling their Volcano project) leaving some unhappy customers that might have invested in LTC cloud mining contracts. The service moved to offering only BTC cloud mining, but there they also had some issues with their initial mining hardware, apparently due to it also not being the most efficient resulting in smaller profits from mining due to high maintenance costs. Then some mining farm facility issues and moving between new “Batches” of mining hashrate with different not so attractive prices and slightly better maintenance fees.

Today ZeusHash has announced that they have partnered with HalleyChina, apparently one of the big players in the industry who owns a TOP 3 mining farm in China (and you probably have not heard about them), and as a result they are offering a new Bitcoin mining contract called Halley GHS. The prices for the new contract seem much more reasonable than their previously available Batch III hashrate priced at $0.889 USD per GHS and the maintenance fee is now further down, making the new Halley GHS finally an interesting offer from ZeusHash. For orders below 1 THS you can purchase at a price of $0.339 USD per GHS (around 0.00155 BTC per GHS with the current exchange rate) and if you purchase 1 THS or more you can get a price of $0.299 USD per GHS or around 0.00135 BTC per GHS or prices that are among the best for cloud mining hashrate at the moment. The maintenance fee is currently set at $0.0016 USD per GHS for the Halley GHS cloud mining contracts. What we hope however is that this partnership will not end up being bad for the users like some other Chinese cloud mining partnerships ended in the last few months.

SFARDS New 28nm BTC and LTC Dual-Algorithm ASIC Specifications Unveiled

sfards-sf3301-dual-asic-chips

SFARDS, the company formed after the merging Gridseed and WiiBox, has just announced that they have completed their new 28nm SF3301 dual-algorithm ASIC chip manufactured using the latest in FD-SOI processing technology and have released specifications about expected power usage and performance. The SF3301 is the claimed to be the world’s first chip to use this manufacturing process and is at the same time the first 28nm dual-algorithm (SHA-256 and Scrypt) chip, capable of mining these two algorithms simultaneously or separately.

According to SFARDS this technology allows for the ASIC chip to operate at lower voltage while maintaining a higher frequency resulting in better balance between power usage and performance. The SF3301 ASIC chip should have a lowest working voltage of only 0.45V with a BTC power efficiency at 0.19 J/GH, and LTC power efficiency at 1.75 J/MH (better than the initially announced numbers). With a reported performance for a single SF3301 chip for BTC with a hashrate of 152 GH/s, and LTC hashrate of 3.17 MH/s things may become interesting again for Scrypt miners, though it also depends on the price per chip. We are talking about a power consumption figures of about 29W per chip (152 GHS) in BTC mode and about 5.5W per chip (3.17 MHS) in LTC mode or supposedly in dual mining mode, for both BTC and LTC, a combined power usage of about 35W per chip. Now scale that to a 10 chip ASIC miner and you should get something like 1.5 THS BTC + 32 MHS LTC mining power with a 350W power usage or a bit more…

SFARDS is apparently planning to release a number of documents for the SF3301 as open-source by the end of this month. The ASIC’s development board design and its software should also be published, and in May the design specifications for their debut Dual Miner solution is expected to be released. SFARDS will be selling ASIC development boards and sample chips, making the SF3301 accessible to developers who wish to customize and build their own hardware in the near future, though no mention of expected time frame is mentioned yet. No word yet on piring per chip or the miner or the number of chips we are going to see in the first upcoming miner.

Updated Windows Binary of the ccMiner 1.5.44-git Fork by SP for Maxwell

ccminer-1-5-44-git-spmod

If you are wondering what to currently mine with your Nvidia-based GPUs such as Nvidia GTX 750 Ti or GTX 980 for example, then you might want to check Quark and Qubit as algorithms they seem to be quite profitable to mine on Nvidia. If you do make sure you have the latest version of ccMiner and we have just compiled a Windows binary from the latest source code of ccMiner 1.5.44-git SP-MOD fork of the Nvidia GPU miner optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards by SP (source). The latest version comes with some fixes and performance improvements in the Quark and Qubit algorithms, though the performance increase of Qubit is apparently better than the increase of hashrate in Quark.

The SP-MOD fork is designed for running on Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970 and GTX 980. The windows binary release we have made available here is compiled with support for Compute 5.0 and Compute 5.2 GPUs or with other words only for Maxwell-based cards with CUDA 6.5 and VS2013. We have done some quick tests comparing the latest update with improved Quark and Qubit performance to the previous .43 release on GTX 750 Ti and GTX 980 and below you can see the results to get an idea on what yu can expect in terms of performance increase:

GTX 750 Ti

– Quark .43 – 5395 KHS

– Quark .44 – 5420 KHS

– Qubit .43 – 4319 KHS

– Qubit .44 – 4440 KHS

GTX 980

– Quark .43 – 15338 KHS

– Quark .44 – 15558 KHS

– Qubit .43 – 13771 KHS

– Qubit .44 – 14115 KHS
