E-Coin Bitcoin Debit Card and Multi-Sig Wallet

e-coin-e-card

Getting and using a Bitcoin Debit Card to spend Bitcoins at places where BTC is not normally accepted as a form of payment is a convenient way to spend your crypto coins, so services that offer such capabilities such as E-Coin are getting more and more user attention. We actually have and are using a physical Bitcoin debit card from for quite a while already, but there are always more new options available such as getting a virtual Bitcoin debit card or a physical one from the E-Coin Bitcoin debit card and multi-sig wallet service. The biggest advantage of this service is that you can get a virtual VISA debit card that is powered by Bitcoin in just a few minutes after you register for the service. Then you just send in Bitcoins to your wallet and transfer them to the card and you can spend them for online purchases from around the world where VISA is accepted. When sending BTC to your E-Coin online wallet you just need to wait for 3 confirmations before you can actually use the coins you have sent, so it takes less time than the usual 6 confirmations. At a later time you can either upgrade your virtual card to a physical one, or get another physical card should you need so and it will be shipped to you with either regular or express service.

ecoin-load-card

You can request to get a Bitcoin debit card is either EUR, USD or GBP as a currency. Getting a virtual debit card you normally need to pay $3 USD, and for a physical card $17 USD if you wan the card shipped to you via Royal Mail with standard shipping or $50 USD for express shipping with DHL. The virtual Bitcoin debit card issues to you will be available in a couple of minutes and you can start using it for online payments, while a physical card will take some time to be delivered to you and then you need to activate it before it can be used. There are multiple of ways available for you to pay the fee required to get your Bitcoin debit card such as with Bitcoin from your account, through PayPal, with an existing bank card etc. Once you get your card you would have some limits on the amount you can spend through the card and if you want to increase the limits you will need to go through a verification process to extend the limits. For an EUR Bitcoin debit card you start with a maximum total ATM withdraw limit of 1000 EUR and you can remove this limit once you pass the verification process, there are no limits on POS or Online payments, though the total maximum Bitcoin you can load in the card is the equivalent of 2500 EUR, again removing this limit once you verify. The standard limits are more than enough for you to try out the card and decide for yourself if it is something you want to keep using, so that you will provide identity verification to increase your card’s limits. Do note that one thing specific to the E-Coin Bitcoin debit card is that normally the balance you have in the online wallet is not directly available in the card to be used, you need to “load” the card with the desired amount that you need spending. This way you can get an extra level of security if you loose the card or it gets stolen.

e-coin-bank-visa-fees

Here are the Bank/VISA fees associated with the Bitcoin debit card regardless if it is virtual or a physical one, the fees are pretty reasonable and the only thing that you need to be more careful with is the “Foreign Transaction Fee” of 3% that you will be charged if the transaction is not in the card’s currency. This means that if you have an EUR card and you purchase something in Euro there will be no extra fees for you, but if you withdraw 100 USD from that EUR card from an ATM you will have to pay 2.25 EUR fee for the ATM transaction as well as 3% extra fee to convert your EUR balance to USD. This foreign transaction fee is something that is available with other similar products like the Bitcoin debit card from E-Coin, you just need to be aware of it when using the card.

e-coin-card-limits

Here are the default limits you get for the Bitcoin debit cards either virtual or physical that you can get. The limits for the Unverified do not require any personal documents from the user meaning that you cans tart using your Bitcoin debit card immediately after you register and request the card (for virtual) or as soon as you get the physical card and you activate it. In order to increase the limits of the Bitcoin debit card you need to provide identity documents that must be verified according to AML and KYC regulations – scanned ID and proof of address is required. Once you get verified the limits of the card are pretty high and you should not have any more trouble using the card daily even for more significant amounts.

We have already got a virtual VISA Bitcoin debit card in EURO currency from the service and were pretty pleasantly surprised how fast the card was available for us to use, of course limited to doing only online payments. We have since then requested the virtual Bitcoin debit card to be upgraded to a plastic one and are currently waiting for the physical card to arrive. Meanwhile we can use our virtual card just fine and once we get the plastic card we need to activate it, making the virtual card unavailable anymore as the physical card should be with a different number than the virtual one. We are going to share some more feedback from the service once we ge the physical Bitcoin debit card from E-Coin, but so far we are pretty happy with the service. So if you are in need of a way to spend Bitcoins in a more traditional way with a bank card in places where BTC is nor directly accepted, then you might want to give the service a try.

According to one of the exchange's proprietors, Paul Vernon, the site has suffered a DDoS attack not unlike the one CCN has been experiencing as of late. The difference is that CCN has managed to come back online in a matter of a couple hours, not half a day. More importantly, CCN isn't holding onto anyone's money. Cryptsy has recently had other serious issues as regards its wallet servers, which it is claiming will have […]

Islamic State Probably Isn't Using Bitcoin And, If So, They're Dumb

News that Bitcoin can be tied to the Islamic State circulated on the internet in the wake of the Paris attacks. European Union leaders even held a so-called “emergency meeting” on virtual currencies themselves, reportedly investigating how to better control the currency. To be sure, evidence that the Islamic State uses Bitcoin in any significant manner is non-existent, the claims specious at best. Researcher Nicholas Weaver, from the Berkeley-based International Computer Science Institute, is aware of no evidence that the Islamic State uses Bitcoin. “There was a recent material support plea against a Jihobbiest in the US where, among other […]

Drone Whistleblowers Kicked Out of Fiat System – Consider Bitcoin?

According to National Security and Human Rights lawyer Jesselyn Radack, a group of her clients is being ostracized from the fiat financial system as a result of blowing the whistle on certain aspects of the US government's drone program. Taking to Twitter to complain, she asked if anyone had any suggestions. Coinbase Launches First Bitcoin Debit Card In The U.S.

Coinbase has introduced what it claims is the first U.S.-issued bitcoin debit card, the Shift Card. This is a VISA debit card that allows Coinbase users in 24 U.S. states to spend bitcoin online and offline at more than 38 million merchants worldwide, the company announced on its website. Coinbase noted that merchant adoption of bitcoin has increased in recent years, but it’s still difficult for many people to make regular purchases with bitcoin. Purchasing gasoline or groceries at local outlets has not been possible in most U.S. cities. The Shift Card now makes this possible. How To Get A […]

Shift Card, a Bitcoin Powered VISA Debit Card for USA Users

shift-card-coinbase

The Bitcoin payment processor Coinbase has just introduced the Shift Card which is essentially a VISA Debit Card that currently allows Coinbase users in twenty-four states in the U.S. (for the moment) to spend Bitcoin online and offline at over 38 million merchants worldwide just like they would with a normal VISA card. With the Shift Card, you can now spend Bitcoin anywhere in the world that VISA is accepted with the amount of BTC coins deducted from your Coinbase account. It seems however that the Shift Card is a partnership with Coinbase and not their own product, so you need to link your account and authorize a payment of the $10 card issuance fee (will be paid in Bitcoins).

Currently the eligible states where users can apply for a Shift Card are: Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia. With a beta test for California that is limited to the first 1000 applicants. Other states can be added later on, so if you are interested in the product you might want to keep an eye on the list.

By default, the daily spending limit for the Shift Card is $1,000 USD. You can lower this limit to any amount below $1,000. The daily ATM withdrawal limit is $200 USD. There is no annual fee, no fee for domestic payments, however there is 3% for international ones, there is a $2.50 USD fee for domestic ATM withdraws and $3.50 USD for international ATM withdraws. So it seems that the target users for the Shift Card are USA customers that plan to spend Bitcoins for domestic payments and not withdraw BTC to USD on an ATM or use the cards abroad.

Since the Shift Card is limited to only certain states of the USA, if you live in a non supported state or in a different country there are other alternatives for debit cards that are backed by Bitcoin that you might want to check out. We have been using a VISA debit card powered by BTC linked to our Xapo account for a while already and are quite happy with the results. Another alternative is the service E-Coin that is essentially an online Bitcoin wallet along with a Bitcoin debit card linked to it and you can get either a virtual debit card or a physical one, though we have not yet tested the service we are soon going to. Another interesting alternative is the Gold-backed debit card from BitGold where you can purchase Gold with Bitcoin and still fund your card with BTC, even though your account balance will be in Gold.

Gigabyte GTX 970 WF3 With Different Versions of ccMiner SPMOD

ccminer-spmod-gtx-970

Since we’ve been closely following the development of the different ccMiner forks and have been compiling Windows binaries for most of the updated versions we have decided to do an interesting test. We have picked up the last 20 releases of the ccMiner SPMOD fork for Maxwell and tested them on a Gigabyte GTX 970 WF3 GPU running at stock frequencies to see what has happened with the hashrate in the X11, Quark, NeoScrypt and LyraREv2 algorithms. The first version we tested with ccMiner 1.5.53-git SP is from early July and looking at the results it seems that the most notable improvement is with Quark as well as some slight improvement with X11. Lyra2REv2 support has been added in release ccMiner 1.5.60-git SP, so there are no results prior to that, it seems however that the initial versions and the last one have pretty much the same hashrate with some drop with some in-between versions. The NeoScrypt hashrate hasn’t changed much, there is some slight variance with different versions probably due to the Boost frequency of the GPU variating a bit. Do note that these are results with publicly available and open source code, there could be some higher performance private miners also available…

The Chamber of Digital Commerce (CDC), based in Washington, D.C., has urged the Group of Seven (G7) nations not to enact virtual currency regulations that will stifle innovation in seeking to prevent future terror attacks like the one in Paris last week. The CDC is concerned that the G7 countries want to restrict virtual currencies because they suspect Islamic State terrorists used and continue to use bitcoin. Stifling digital currency innovation would be counterproductive for law enforcement, according to the CDC. It claims the block chain offers law enforcement an important tool for investigating criminal activity. European Union To Meet Today […]

Titled “Watermarked Tokens and Pseudonymity on Public Block Chains,” the paper argues that a distributed public ledger that secures off-chain assets cannot be both legally authoritative and censorship-resistant. The Economist's Big Mac Index is a financial instrument almost thirty years old, built on the theory of the Purchasing Power Parity. PPP essentially means that, over time, currency exchange rates should equalize such that identical goods cost roughly the same in any two countries. It is used to measure the value of currencies in that if more of a currency is required in one country than another to get the same thing, the local currency is undervalued by a certain percentage. The Big Mac Index uses a McDonald's Big Mac as its measuring stick. It currently allows for the […]

Innosilicon A4 Dominator Scrypt ASICs Might Be Coming Soon

innosilicon-logo

Innosilicon is apparently looking for investors into their new A4 Dominator Scrypt ASIC (both chips and miners based on them) to help them bringing the new the next generation 14nm chips on the market in a few months time with 1.2 Watt power usage per MHS. It seems that they have already designed and taped-out the A4 Dominator chips and are now entering the next round of full mask mass production using apparently Globalfoundries 14nm production process.

A4 Dominator ASIC & Miner Specifications:
– A4 ASIC: 3 MHS per chip at 3.6W nominal, support DCDC less PCB
– Extreme Low Power: daisy chained ASIC running at 0.7V, only in 14nm
– Miner Performance: 600 MHS from 720W at the Wall or 850 MHS from 1020W
– PSU Requirements: common PCI-E 8 Pins/6+2Pins with 12V output
– Included: Reprisal Pi running the most user friendly A2 terminator Software

“We have opened our A4 ASIC/Miner production to committed partners in order to share in both the cost and the profit. Anyone who commits $1.5 million to this partnership will get to share our ASIC production masks or purchase miners at cost for your mining farms. We have fully de-risked the design by shouldering all the R&D and MPW costs for the testchips. Also, we will showcase our testchip and test miners in couple of months to demonstrate the A4’s unsurpassable efficiency. We need only 4 to 5 partners to participate in this incredible risk free win-win partnership round.”

Apart from the new A4 chips that will be for Scrypt the company is also working on new A3 chips for SHA-256 that apparently offer less than 0.2 Watt per GHS, so things should be similar to their first generation A1 for BTC and A2 for LTC mining hardware. In our opinion however Innosilicon will have to work on something else as well and that is securing partners to make their mining hardware more easily accessible to users and not only to large mining operations. They could also work on an approach similar to that of Bitmain to offer direct sales to end users as apparently they could be the new driving force behind Scrypt mining with SFARDS going completely silent and other companies just now starting to look for partners to work on development and not production.

Are Marijuana, Binary Options And Bitcoin ‘Flavors Of The Month’ For U.S. States' Watchdogs?

Are marijuana, binary options and digital currency the flavors of the month for U.S. state securities regulators? You might think so based on warnings issued by Washington and Colorado state officials and reported as such by local media. Recently, CCN reported the Washington Department of Financial Institutions issued an alert warning consumers about investing in marijuana, binary options and digital currencies. The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash. reported this alert, warning consumers against becoming victims of “the next big thing.” Later in the day, I noticed the Colorado Securities Commissioner issued the same warning using similar wording. In this case, the […]

X11 Cloud Mining Back in Stock at Genesis Mining

genesis-mining-x11-back-in-stock

The cloud mining provider Genesis Mining has X11 cloud mining hashrate back in stock after their initial mining capacity was quickly sold to users. The prices for hashrate remain the same as before and they are for 1 year mining plans with no additional fees for maintenance, everything is included in the price of the hashrate. Currently there is a limit of maximum 100 MHS per X11 contract that you can buy as there is apparently still high demand and a limited supply and since X11 algorithm support requires GPUs it is not as easy to deploy in large capacities like it is with Bitcoin and ASIC mining hardware.

You can get more information about the new X11 cloud mining services by Genesis Mining here…
