Craig Steven Wright to Confirm Identity as Satoshi Nakamoto?

There has been a long list of figures who the press and online commenters have speculated are Satoshi Nakamoto, creator of Bitcoin. At one point, when Newsweek claimed Dorian Nakamoto, an unnamed individual left a cryptographic message stating, “I am not Dorian Nakamoto.” Many argued this in-and-of-itself does not prove Satoshi left the message. Second Mining Pool for HOdlcoin Now Available

hodl-coin-logo

After the announcement of the first HODL mining pool there was a centralization of most of the network hashrate in that pool as many people moved away from solo mining. Now we have a second HOdlcoin mining pool from Suprnova available, so you can move your hashrate there in order to balance out the hashrate distribution among the two pools and with the solo miners things should be safer for the HODL network. Of course having a few more pools won’t hurt either, but even with two mining pools things are significantly better than with just one, so this is definitely a move in the right direction.

In order to mine HODL with the new Suprnova pool you can use the same dedicated hodlminer CPU miner (source) available for download below in the form of a Windows binary. If this is the first time you are hearing about HOdlcoin (HODL) you might want to get to know about the altcoin a bit more as it has an interesting idea and bonuses for early adopters. Also the new Suprnova pool has a fee of just 1% as compared to the fee of 2% for the Blockquarry Hodl Pool, so this can also be a reason enough for some miners to switch and try the new pool. Do note that the Suprnova HODL pool was just launched, so there might be some things that need to be fixed, though it seems that the mining part is working just fine already.

The Innosilicon 14nm A4 Dominator Scrypt ASICs Coming Soon

innosilicon-a4-dominator

Last year there was some information about the upcoming next generation of Scrypt ASICs from Innosilicon as the company was looking for investors. Back then they already had apparently designed and taped-out the A4 Dominator chips and needed sufficient investment to start making the chips using 14nm production process. Now, about four and a half months later Innosilicon comes with an official announcement of the final specifications and additional details of the upcoming A4 Dominator Scrypt ASICs that are apparently now entering into production.

The next generation Innosilicon Scrypt miner using 14nm ASIC is code-named A4 Dominator as already expected. This is a full custom optimized LTC mining ASIC with a focus on efficiency and cost, that should be capable of delivering up to 4 MHS per chip with as low as 1.5W of power usage per MHS efficiency in a DCDC less daisy chain configuration. This should allow for next gen Scrypt miners to offer 400 MHS to 500 MHS hash power per box, with easily over 300% better power efficiency over the previous generations. Initial batch of A4 ASIC chips is expected to be available in May for miner developer to design PCB and software, mass produced A4 ASIC/Miners should be available in June/July 2016 based on pre-order sequence.

innosilicon-a4-power-efficiency-performance-table

Innosilicon A4 Dominator ASIC and Miner Specifications:
– A4 Miner: 400 MHS per 1 KW power supply in one standard miner box
– A4 ASIC: 3.5 MHS per chip performance at 2.5 W/MHS nominal
– Extreme Low Power: ASIC with large memory running at single rail 0.6V
– One Start and New PCB: eliminate the need of DC-DC components and enable 14 to 20 A4 chips – running off the single 12V DC supply
– PSU Requirements: common PCI-E 8 Pins/6+2 Pins with 12V output
– Included: Raspberry Pi running the user friendly A2 Terminator software
– Server Grid Reliability: Built-in high-procession temperature sensor for automatic chip protection and variable frequency operation to maximize chip life time

There is no word about pricing at the moment, but it seems that Innosilicon is finally going to beat the KnC Titan Scrypt ASIC miners in terms of performance and power usage as the king in Scrypt mining efficiency at the moment. Unlike KnC however whose miners are no longer available and were problematic as hell and quite expensive when launched, based on our experience with previous A2 miners we know that we can expect a more affordable and reliable product from Innosilicon that should not give you a lot of headaches like many Titans did. There is no word on pricing yet, but a somewhat acceptable price would be in the 2K USD range, otherwise there might be not much demand for it with the current market conditions. With the high expectations we had and the total failure that SFARDS turned out to be in making available their products our hopes for Innosilicon finally starting to do something on the LTC and Scrypt crypto currency mining front are high, but let us see what will happen this summer…

Ethereum Mining Performance for Nvidia GeForce GTX 950

nvidia-geforce-gtx-950-msi

When talking about GPU mining with Nvidia-based GPUS for crypto currencies there are two models that usually come in mind – the GeForce GTX 750 Ti and GTX 970. When talking about Ethereum mining however Nvidia mining rigs do not do that well compared to AMD-based rigs and while the GTX 970 does pretty well at about 20-21 MHS the GTX 750 Ti is performing terribly, so it is not suitable for ETH mining. A good choice for GPUs that have only 1 GB of video memory or do not perform well for mining Ethereum is to go for mining Decred (DCR) at the moment, so you have good alternative. But if you are currently building a low powered multi-GPU mining rig at the moment with Nvidia-based GPUs the card of choise will most likely not be the 750 Ti anymore, you should go for the slightly more expensive GTX 950.

msi-gtx-950-ethereum-mining

The GTX 950 is doing much better for mining Ethereum as compared to GTX 750 Ti, you can expect to see somewhere around 10 MHS from the 950 and it has been like that since the beginning (no performance drop like on some AMD cards). The reference design GTX 950 has a TDP of 90W as compared to 60W for the reference design GTX 750 Ti, but it also offers higher performance and is usable for Ethereum mining at 10 MHS. So a 6 GPU mining rig using Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 video cards should come at about 600W of total power consumption at max load and giving you about 62 MHS hashrate for mining Ethereum (Ethereum does not use the most power hungry algorithm). The GTX 950 does pretty well for other mining algorithms as well, you have alternatives available like DCR and will still get good performance and profit. Here is a comparison between GTX 750 Ti doing around 500 MHS with the latest ccMiner fork from tpruvot with Decred support (the faster 64-bit version) versus around 645 MHS for GTX 950, these numbers are from the publicly available miner. So do consider going for GTX 950 instead of GTX 750 Ti if you are building an Nvidia mining rig now and GTX 970+ is not an option at the moment.

FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt ASIC Miner

futurebit-moonlander-usb-scrypt-asic

The FutureBit MoonLander is an ASIC Scrypt USB stick miner made by jstefanop on Bitcointalk that is based on a single Alcheminer AlcheMist Scrypt ASIC chip. A small SCrypt-based ASIC miner intended to provide a hashrate between 0.4 and 1.2 MHS with a power usage of about 5W per megahash. The device is user overclockable with voltage adjustment available via a variable resistance potentiometer on the board and clock setting via the software miner. Using the device directly plugged into a USB 3.0 port you should be able to push it somewhere close to a Megahash with the available 4.5W of power, for more you will need a powered USB HUB capable of providing more power to the USB miner and probably active cooling. We have purchased a single unit in order to be able to try it out and see how well it performs, so you can expect our first impressions and test result from the FutureBit MoonLander very soon.

FutureBit MoonLander Specifications:
– Scrypt Hasrate: 400 KHS to 1.2 MHS performance
– Power Usage: about 5 watt per Megahash
– Voltage Adjustment: fully customizable core voltage range from 0.7 – 1.1v
– Power Efficiency: really efficient 5v->core voltage stage with about 95% efficiency
– Heavy duty/over speced parts were used to ensure wide range of operation (this thing can put out 20amps if you wanted to push it that far)
– Status LEDs for power, TX and RX transmission
– Uses latest bfgminer 5.4 for control and mining
– Will work with all Mac OS, Linux, and Windows based PCs

The price of the FutureBit MoonLander USB Scrypt ASIC miner is $39 USD plus shipping and you can order directly form jstefanop over at Bitcointalk or get via it via some of the official resellers while they have units. There are two US resellers – Asicpuppy and HolyBitcoin and there is one reseller for Europe – Bitshopper.

Do note that these USB Scrypt ASIC miners won’t make you rich mining Litecoin (LTC) and even ROI won’t be very fast at the current moment, they are not meant for that. The FutureBit MoonLander is a handy little device that is affordable enough for people that want to experiment with Scrypt mining for fun. With that said however if you point the miner at some Scrypt altcoin with low network hashrate and difficulty, mine some coins and then sell them at the right moment you can still do pretty good.

The First HOdlcoin Mining Pool is Now Available

hodlminer-cpu-miner

We have recently covered HOdlcoin (HODL) as an interesting new altcoin. For the moment HODL is only CPU mineable and you could only mine it solo with the wallet, but the first mining pool is now available with a dedicated hodlminer CPU miner (source). The miner supports Stratum and you can control how many CPU cores you want to utilize to mine HODL, however at this point it does seem to be slower than the built in CPU ‌mining in the wallet. With hodlminer we are getting just about 1/4th of the hashrate we get in the wallet or just about 45-50 H/s as compared to about 200 Hashes per second in the wallet (under Windows 7) using an Intel Core i7 5820K CPU (6 cores – 12 threads). So you might want to wait for a more optimized miner to become available and keep solo mining for the moment in order to have higher hashrate available. Using pool mining does provide lower rewards per block, but also should ensure stable and more predictable mining income, unlike when solo mining at this already pretty high difficulty where luck plays a lot of role in how much you will make.

To download and try the hodlminer CPU miner for pool mining HODL coins on Windows…

What Features are Missing from the iBeLink DM384M X11 ASIC Miner

ibelink-dm384m-2

The iBeLink DM384M is the first to market X11 ASIC miner and while it is a pretty good product, there are still some things to be desired. In terms of hardware the X11 ASIC miner offers a solid build and reliable performance making it pretty capable for mining in a data center even in not so favorable conditions even when the environment temperature is not the best. The power usage is at a good level for the high performance it offers of 384 MHS for X11 mining, but the noise level makes it inappropriate for home miners. Temperature wise the situation is good thanks to the powerful server grade cooling used to keep the miner operating stable as you can see from these thermal images of the device in operation. Pretty much what is missing in terms of hardware is the presence of thermal sensors and fan control available for the users, the first is not hard to implement considering that the built-in controller of the miner is a Raspberry Pi. Fan speed control and failsafe could be trickier to implement as it would also need to be able to ignore users settings if the conditions require it and even to shutdown the miner in case a fan fails. Not to mention that implementing fan speed control and monitoring would not be very usable without the miner having thermal sensors, but the current implementation with server grade fans is good enough and should provide long and reliable operating with adequate cooling.

ibelink-pool-control-software

On the software side however there is much more to be desired, even though the basic web-based functionality you get is a pretty good starting point. we have already mentioned the device uses a Raspberry Pi controller with a modified version of the MineNinja software to provide a web-based frontend to the cgminer 3.5.6 backend. The web frontend provides a lot of numbers to the users, but they do not always seem to be correct, especially in terms of the actual hashrate you are getting from the device, so you need to look at the pool reported speed. Furthermore the web-based control lacks some very basic features such as password protection for access control or the ability to use a different pool mining strategy than the default failsafe one that is available. With big and powerful ASIC miners we often see that the web-based control software offers only pool failsafe options, but no load balance strategy for example. So while this will be fine if you are mining a high difficulty coin, if you go for a low difficulty and hashrate one throwing your full hashrate you will quickly raise the coin difficulty a lot. The cgminer backend does come with support for different pool strategies, so the problem is in the functionality available in web-based interface. Unfortunately for the moment the source code of cgminer or at lest the driver for the device is not yet publicly released, so we cannot have support built in other miners and web frontends. So for the moment the iBeLink DM384M is best for use with high difficulty X11 coins…

Interest and Price of Influxcoin (INFX) is Rising Rapidly

influxcoin-infx-profit

Influxcoin (INFX) is apparently today’s big hit in the world of altcoins as the interest and the exchange rate of the coin has exploded. The reason for the peak is the official announcement that the Microsoft has added the project in their continuing expansion of Azure’s Blockchain as a Service. Other coins that have been added today include Expanse (EXP), a project that was forked from Ethereum, Monero (XMR) and Radium (RADS). Influxcoin (INFX) is currently the most profitable X11-based altcoin to mine, so owners of iBeLink X11 ASIC miners might be interested in it, though larger scale X11 GPU miners might want to check it out as well. EXP, XMR and RADS are also gaining in terms of exchange rate, so worth keeping an eye on them as well, but INFX has shown the highest growth among the newly announced coins supported by Microsoft’s Azure.

Ethermine, a New PPLNS Ethereum Mining Pool

ethermine-mining-pool

Ethpool has launched a new mining pool for EThereum (ETH) with a more standard PPLNS mode for payment as with the increase of network hashrate and difficulty the payment method used by the original Ethpool is not very favourable for smaller miners. Ethermine is a direct successor of Ethpool. It provides the same level of mining efficiency and service as Ethpool, but pays out using the traditional and fair PPLNS mode. Payouts are instant and you will receive your Ether coins as soon as you reach a minimum balance of 1 ETH. The new pool supports Stratum mode using Stratum Proxy v0.0.5 by dwarfpool, Stratum mode using QtMiner and the more traditional Getwork mode using ethminer. The mining fee will is now reduced to 0% for the remaining week in order to make the new pool more attractive for users to switch to it, so you might want to give it a try.

How to Fix Ethminer Not-Working Issues on 2GB GPUs

ethminer-2gb-vram-error

It seems that owners of video cards with 2GB of video memory has started having issues mining Ethereum (ETH). People are reporting that their cards are not being able to properly allocate the DAG file needed for mining with Ethminer even though it is still well below 2GB in size (a little over 1.3 GB at the moment). The error people with 2GB VRAM GPUs trying to mine Ethereum are getting is the following:

Creating one big buffer for the DAG
Allocating/mapping single buffer failed with: clCreateBuffer(-61). GPU can’t allocate the DAG in a single chunk. Bailing.
clEnqueueWriteBuffer(-38)

There are numerous suggestions on how some people were able to resolve the problem and make their 2GB VRAM video cards able to mine again Ethereum without more problems, but it seems that now all of them work for everyone and in all cases. We have tried different suggestions and have experimented, until we have found out a working solution that works fine on an AMD Radeon R9 285 GPU with 2GB of video memory, so you might want to try and see if it will work for you as well. Try executing the following commands in Windows before running ethminer and see if it will help:

setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0
setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100

Some people are reporting that they only need to do “setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100” and things work fine after that with their 2GB GPUs, but we were not able to make things work only with that variable. So do try and report what works and what does not for you, setting all of the four environment variable listed above did the trick for us. Restarting the computer after applying the environment variable listed above may be required for some users to make them work properly.

Linux users might try this as well, however you need to replace the setx with export and add = before the value you want to set, so the above list of commands needed for Linux users mining Ethereum should look like this:

update GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=0
update GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE=100
update GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
update GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100

Do note that we have not tested if this fixes the issue for Linux users, we can confirm that it worked for us under Windows, so if you test on Linux mining rigs with 2GB video memory GPUs please write in the comments if it helped you or not.

Hashflare Now Offering Ethereum Cloud Mining as Well

hashflare-ethereum-cloud-mining

Hashflare is the second cloud mining service provider to start offering Ethereum. After a long period of pre-orders being accepted this Monday (March 21st) the first batch of Ethereum cloud mining hashrate went online and now the company is now taking pre-orders for the second batch that is expected to start mining sometime between April 4th and 11th, so if you purchase now you will have to wait some time before you start earning anything. Unlike the SHA-256 and SCrypt cloud mining hashrate that the service offers where it pays in Bitcoin only, with Ethereum cloud mining you are getting payments in Ethereum coins

hashflare-discount-code-pre-order

The minimum you can purchase is 100 KHS with a regular price of $4.25 USD per 100 KHS or $42.50 USD for 1 MHS hashrate. The mining contracts are with 1 year duration and everything is included in the price of the hashrate, so there are no extra fees that you need to pay. It is not very clear however what will happen if Ethereum switches to POS phase before the end of your 1 year contract. There is a promotional code available that can help you get 12% discount from the regular price that is there in order to compensate users for doing a pre-order, just enter the following discount code when checking out HF16ETHER12. If you don’t want to pre-order cloud mining hashrate and wait for the mining to start, then you can always go to Genesis Mining that has been offering users ETH hashrate for quite some time and after you purchase it will start mining for you right now.

New sgminer 5.3.1 AMD/Nvidia fork from tpruvot for Decred

sgminer-5-3-1-tpruvot-decred

There is a new sgminer 5.3.1 fork from tpruvot with support for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs for mining Decred (source) that should work better than the previously available official cgminer fork for DCR. This sgminer fork comes with support for both protocols for mining Decred, the official getwork and the getwork over stratum implementation from tpruvot and as already mentioned it works on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs (it uses OpenCL on Nvidia as well and not CUDA). We have prepared a 32-bit and a 64-bit Windows binary of the new sgminer 5.3.1 fork compiled with VS2013, but have in mind that the NVML monitoring for Nvidia only works with the 64-bit version and the 32-bit one does seem to provide a bit higher hashrate of the two. In fact we are seeing a bit better hashrate using this sgminer fork on Nvidia than when using tpruvot’s ccMiner with Decred support, so you might want to try it with Nvidia GPUs and see if it will provide a bit more hashrate. AMD miners should have less problematic mining experience when using this sgminer fork compared to the various cgminer releases for Decred and with this miner you should be able to get better results when mining on pools with getwork over stratum support as compared to ones with only standard getwork implementation available.

To download and try the new AMD/Nvidia sgminer 5.3.1 tpruvot for Decred for Windows OS…

What Motherboard to Use for a Multi-GPU Mining Rig

asrock-h81-pro-btc-motherboard

With the recent spike of interest in GPU mining thanks mostly to Ether a lot of people are getting back to building GPU mining rigs using more up-to date hardware much like back in the days of the Litecoin and prior to that of the Bitcoin mining boom. Nowadays it is much easier and you have way more options for different motherboards that have the option to work with 4, 5 or even 6 video cards by utilizing not only full width x16 PCI-E slots, but also the multiple available PCI-Express x1 sots with the help of extenders. We have prepared a list of all possible candidates for use as motherboards for multi-GPU mining rigs 4-6 GPU mining from ASRock, the company that has made its name among miners thanks to their dedicated BTC-branded motherboards made especially for GPU mining rigs. Other motherboard manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and others also have products that might do for a multi-GPU mining rigs, but these are not dedicated for such use and this may cause some problems.

Nowadays ASRock has a lot of BTC-branded motherboards that are designed for use as multi-GPU mining rigs for different processor platforms from both AMD and Intel. There are also quite a few more non-BTC named motherboards that could do the job perfectly and some that might also work fine, but some of the PCI-E slots might not be available for GPU use under specific conditions, so you need to be careful. What is important for a motherboard that will be used with multiple GPUs for mining is for the motherboard to have enough PCI-E slots, to be affordable in terms of price as you don’t need extras targeted at gamers or enthusiasts and to be able to be used with cheap dual-core CPUs. ASRock’s BTC-branded motherboards do come with some extra features that may help by minimizing possible issues such as the fact that they have been designed to provide extra power to GPUs and have dedicated connectors for additional power from the PSU. They do not share PCI-E lanes with external hardware such as network controllers, audio cards, storage controllers or USB controllers that may cause problems if you want to use all of the available PCI-Express lanes for video cards and so on. These motherboards are offering just basic features, but ensure stable and problem free operation even under not so good conditions that often are available with GPU mining rigs that generate a lot of heat an may not be optimally cooled.

The list below covers all possibly suitable ASRock motherboards for 4-6 GPU mining rigs, you should choose to go for the models that do have the BTC in their model nae as they will most likely be the best choice. The next are Anniversary and Pro series and then the others if you have no other choice, but with such a big list you should have a lot of options. Unfortunately the only 6 GPU capable motherboards are for Intel socket 1155 and 1150 CPUs, still no affordable options for the latest Intel 1151 platforms or AMD FM2 sockets. Sure the company has some high-end enthusiast level products that can do 6 GPUs, but these are pointless for use as multi-GPU mining rigs as they will add to much to the price of the setup and you will be better off spending the extra cash for more video cards or more powerful models. After all you need to find the right balance that includes cheap motherboard, cheap processor and powerful GPUs along with some PCI-E extenders (powered preferably) with PCI Express x1-x16 USB 3.0 Extenders being the best choice if available.

E-Coin is Rebranding and Offering an Option to Buy Bitcoin

e-coin-e-card

The service E-Coin that is offering users a Bitcoin-powered Debit Card and an online Multi-Sig wallet is apparently going to be rebranding to Wirex. So in the future instead of E-Coin debit cards you will be getting a Wirex Bitcoin-powered debit card, but with the rebranding we are also supposed to get new extras including a dedicated mobile applications for Android and iOS. Meanwhile the old E-Coin website is still fully functional and is still the way to use your Bitcoin online wallet and to control and manage any virtual or physical Bitcoin-powered debit card if you have already have one.

e-coin-bitcoin-visa-debit-card

Last year we have reviewed the service and even got our own physical E-Coin Bitcoin debit card issued to try it out, you can find our first impressions using the card here. We should note that we got an unbranded Visa card issued from My Choice Corporate and apparently the new cards should be Master Cards branded as Wirex Card and be issued from by Wave Crest Holdings. We will have to wait a bit and see that when the rebranding is finished and E-Coin fully transforms as Wirex, something that is currently going at the moment.

e-coin-buy-bitcoin

As we have already mentioned E-Coin is an online multi-sig wallet for securely storing Bitcoins as well as a service that allows you to get a Bitcoin powered debit card. The Bitcoins you have in your balance however are not directly available for use through your Bitcoin debit card, you need to first load your card by essentially exchanging Bitcoins for the fiat currency of the card. It is also possible to to load money directly in the Bitcoin debit card with a bank transfer, but up until recently you had no option to “unload” money from the card back into your Bitcoin wallet from within the service. Now you finally have to option to Buy Bitcoin with the balance in your card, so you can move BTC to fiat and vice versa any moment you like, so you can even profit “trading” when the exchange rate changes. Of course for trading you would prefer to go for an exchange, but it is convenient to be able to get any unspent EUR from your Bitcon debit card back to Bitcoin if you are not going to be needing them for the moment.

X11 Mining Profitability Skyrocketing on NiceHash

what-to-miner-x11-profitability

Some very good news for the very few owners of the first batch of iBeLink DM384M X11 ASIC miners, but also for GPU miners as well – X11 mining profitability on NiceHash has skyrocketed in the last hours and is still keeping high. Selling X11 hashrate on NiceHash has been the most profitable long term choice since the beginning of this month and the preferred choice for the 50 lucky owners of the first batch of iBeLink X11 ASICs. Today however we are seeing the X11 profitability more than doubling compared to what it was just a few days ago.

Now, some people are considering that X11 is already a lost cause for GPU mining, but it is too early for that as there are still very few X11 ASIC miners available and with high profitability increase like the one at the moment you should take advantage even with GPUs, let alone to miss the opportunity if you have an ASIC miner in your hands. The next batch of iBeLink X11 ASICs is expected around mid-May and even then the number of available units will most likely be small as compared to what we have seen with LTC ASIC miners fooling the market when they first appeared. So if you are not mining Ethereum or Decred with your GPUs you might want to check the profitability for X11 for your GPU mining rigs, and even if you are mining ETH or DCR you might still check if this X11 peak will not be more profitable on the short run.

If you want to check your current X11 GPU/ASIC mining profitability on What to Mine…

Spreading the Hashrate of KnC Titan ASIC Over Multiple Coins

kncminer-titan-scrypt-asic-miner

The KnCminer Titan Scrypt ASIC is still probably the fastest and most power efficient miner for Scrypt coins out there, but at the same time it is also one of the most problematic one to use and run. There are hardware issues resulting in dying cores and problems with the DCDC power modules, the software is also far from perfect, even though there are modifications over the last official firmware such as GenTarkin’s Custom KNC Titan Scrypt ASIC Firmware, there is still more to be desired. One of the things that is quite annoying is that the Load Balance pool strategy in the official Firmware 2.0 for the Titan is not working, so you are essentially left only with the Failover option.

Even if you run just one Titan cube you are still getting quite significant hashrate and while this is fine if you are mining for high-difficulty coins such as Litecoin for example, it is not for low difficulty coins that may have just a couple of MHS total network hashrate. Throwing your full KnC Titan hashrate at a coin with low difficulty and total network hashrate will simply increase the difficulty in very short period of time (depending on the difficulty adjustment algorithm of the coin) making it pointless to be mined. What you would want to have for low difficulty Scrypt crypto coins is to be able to split your Titan hashrate between multiple cons on a single multipool or between multiple mining pools in order to maximize your mining profit without bumping the difficulty to a level making it unprofitable for a given coin to be mined.

gentarkin-balance-pool-strategy

GenTarkin’s custom firmware has implemented support for the alternative Balance strategy in the web interface, though it is essentially something supported by the bfgminer as an alternative to the Load Balance pool strategy. Considering that the Load Balance strategy is not working properly and you cannot dedicate lets say 10% to one coin, 30% for another and the remaining 60% to a third one, you might at least try the equal spreading of hshrate that the Balance strategy should provide. The Balance strategy should split the hashrate in equal parts between the multiple defined pools, so if you have 4 pools the total KnC Titan hashrate should be equally split between them with about 25% for each. The Balance pool strategy works just fine not only on the custom GenTarkin firmware, but also on the stock Titan 2.0 firmware as both rely on the bfgminer 5.1.0 and the miner provides the actual functionality, you just need to configure it.

With the stock firmware you will have to go to the Manual edit mode and edit the pool configuration file by hand, what you need to essentially do is add the option "balance": true at the end of the configuration file to tell bfgminer to use the Balance pool strategy. Above is an example configuration file with four different coins and Balance pool strategy that should equally split the total hashrate to about 25% for each of the coins. GenTakin’s latest custom firmware adds support for the Balance strategy in the Normal edit mode as well, making it a bit easier for users, but the end result is the same. As we have said already, the Balance pool strategy will work just fine with the latest official Titan 2.0 firmware, so you can try it even without a modified firmware. However custom firmwares such as GenTarkin’s add a lot of other and more useful features than just making some of the things that do not work properly in the official firmware more user friendly.

No End In Sight For Block Size Debate As ‘Halving’ Approaches: Will The Bitcoin Network Survive?

The conflict over how to expand the bitcoin network has reached a critical point with no resolution in sight as the “halving” approaches in June, according to Paul Vigna, The Wall Street Journal’s “Moneybeat” blogger. HOdlcoin (HODL) Altcoin with CPU Only Mining, High Interest on Balance and Deposits

hodl-coin-logo

HOdlcoin (HODL) is a relatively new experimental altcoin that can only be mined with the CPU for the moment using the coin’s wallet and although it is a PoW coin you get interest on your wallet balance and there is an option for deposit with even higher interest rate. The algorithm of the coin is made in a such way that early adopters holding their coins in the wallet get higher interest rates with the idea to attract more users resulting in a wider coin adoption for a shorter period of time. The regular interest rate is 5% APR, but with the extra bonuses and deposits the interest can grow exponentially. The deposits work in a way very similar to PoS, though there are some differences, your coins are locked for a period of your choice and the longer the deposit, the higher interest rate you get. To check the current interest rates and bonuses you can visit the HOdlcoin Interest Rate Calculator.

hodl-coin-wallet

The coin uses 1GB AES Pattern Search Proof of Work algorithm that involves filling up RAM with pseudo-random data, and then conducting a search for the start location of an AES encrypted data pattern in that data. Pattern Search is an evolution of the ProtoShares Momentum PoW, first used in MemoryCoin and later modified for use in CryptoNight (Monero, Bytecoin), Ethash (Ethereum). For the moment you can only mine HODL coins with your CPU via the wallet, there is no separate miner available yet or a pool where you can mine the coin. This means that you will have to run a separate HOdlcoin wallet on every computer where you want to be able to mine the coin and since it is solo mining luck can also play big role in how much you might be able to mine.

HOdlcoin CPU Mining Performance:
– Intel Celeron G1820 Dual-Core at 2.7 GHz – 13 H/s
